Giving Always Matters.
For the past seven years, there has been a day each May when the community has rallied and showered area nonprofits with its generosity.
This 24 hours of giving, known to many as The Big Payback, is a full day to celebrate the spirit of giving and collaboration, and ultimately, the extraordinary work that nonprofits do in Middle Tennessee every day.
In its seven year history, The Big Payback, an initiative of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee, has helped to raise nearly $21 million from a total of 147,642 donations for participating nonprofits, schools, and faith-based organizations.

A Look Back at Big Payback 2020
For so many of us the year 2020 signified a new decade to take on the world’s problems with full-force and a clear vision. Instead Middle Tennesseans faced uncertainty that stems from multiple disasters and the aftermath; loss of homes, gigs, business, and health. The economic impact continues to unfold.
These disasters forced hundreds of organizations to slow down or put their important work on hold at a time when we need them the most. They are:
Feeding the hungry ∙ Sheltering the homeless ∙ Fighting for the rights of the underserved ∙ Fostering the animals ∙ Preserving the arts ∙ Providing a safe haven ∙ Protecting the environment ∙ Teaching the children ∙ Taking care of each other.
And in that tumultuous year, our generous community stepped up to support an event record-breaking 988 organizations representing 34 counties in the 24-hour giving day despite our region’s multiple disasters.
Residents and businesses alike donated $4,347,441 from a total of 31,694 gifts, including prize incentives made available through The Big Payback sponsors.
